Tennis for Visually Impaired Juniors

Tennis for Visually Impaired Juniors

Enjoy Tennis is delighted to launch the visually impaired tennis pilot programme for visually impaired juniors.

This new game will be commencing in Ireland on September 11th Following a very successful pilot programme for visually impaired Adults.

VI Tennis is played on a re-alighned tennis court with sponge balls that emit sound' and the court uses raised tactile lines as navigational markers to assist the visually impaired players. Players use their heightened sense of hearing and spatial awareness to track and hit the VI tennis balls.

The game had never been played in Ireland before this June when Vision Sports Ireland in conjunction with Tennis Ireland launched it at Mayfest.  We had the pleasure of President Higgins and Sabrina attending the launch and watching an exhibition of the game.

This is a wonderful form of tennis - and very simply  - it is a way for visually impaired people to have the same fun, enjoyment and competition as sighted players.

Our junior pilot programme will take place on Sunday mornings from 09.30-11.00  at Shankill Tennis Club. The programme will run for 6 weeks starting on the 11th of September (*excluding 25/09). We are looking for junior players aged 10-14 to join us for this exciting new programme!

Places are limited so please contact Sarah at odonohos@gmail.com or 0876995148 to sign up or for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!
