We were refused DCA for our daughter who has a visual impairment as well as mild hearing impairment and low muscle tone (hypotonia). She’s a bit delayed in her motor skills and language, probably because of the hypotonia and hearing problems. I think VI is her primary disability. Does anyone else receive DCA with respect to a VI. We’re appealing the decision but I’m not sure whether we’re not entitled to it for a VI or whether there’s been lack of clarity about the rules since it moved from HSE to DSFA?

Hi,
My son who is visually impaired and registered blind was refused SNA support when starting school this sept. It has since being reviewed and he has been given half a day, but SENO will not commit this to paper. Before he started school we got a report from health board done, educational phyce recommended SNA support as did visiting teacher, this was all totally disregared by SENO, she made the decision based on observing him for half an hour in class. While his vision is pretty bad, his mobility is good and he does get around well.
I was wondering has anyone else had a similar expeirence and what they did about it.

I know there’s not many people around yet, but what music do people like?

I’m a big metal-head myself - Cradle of Filth, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir… - but I’ve also been known to listen to some classical stuff, as well as a lot of piano solos/covers.

Anyone?

HI,

Just wondering if anyone out there has any advice. My ten year old son has ocular albinism and is doing really well, but sometimes I worry about secondary school. He has a computer and camera in school which is great but since he went back in Sept I find he is less happy to use it, tho he needs it badly as he cant read the board from more than 2 feet away. Just wondering if any one has any advice on the dealing with childrens fears of being different etc. He was fine in school in the early years as I find children are a lot more accepting then.

Hi,
I am currently a fourth year student in Trinity College Dublin and am doing my dissertation on the Geography of Visual Impairment for children in primary school aka how their geographical location affects their education.

I do not want to cause any offence for posting on here and thoroughly apologise if anyone is upset. I am simply trying to gather information from parents who experience the education system first hand with children who are visually impaired or blind. I am looking to to get a few questionnaires answered if anyone is willing to. I cannot stress enough how grateful I would be to anyone who wishes to contribute as I feel quite strongly about my research as I have family ties to it. It would be invaluable to my research to get any responses at all but understand the sensitive nature of this for families. If anyone would like to contact me further my email is keegansa at tcd dot ie.

I will include the questionnaire below for those who wish to review it… and if you are satisfied I would extremely grateful if you forward to me at the above email address.

Thank you for taking the time to read and I sincerely hope I haven’t caused offence,

Kind Regards,

Sarah Keegan
